Course Description (4 hrs.)
This course provides the necessary tools to ensure all drivers, shippers, and receivers learn appropriate handling and ensure legal responsibilities are understood and fulfilled. This course will also teach participants the appropriate response techniques in emergency situations such as spills or accidents.

6.1 Training Certificate Requirements
(1) A person who handles, offers for transport or transports dangerous goods must
(a) Be adequately trained and hold a training certificate in accordance with this Part; or
(b) Perform those activities in the presence and under the direct supervision of a person who is adequately trained and who holds a training certificate in accordance with this Part.
Globally Harmonized System (GHS/WHMIS)
Course Description (4 hrs.)
This course includes a written assessment to validate training competencies. Safety Services Manitoba has also introduced student response technology into the GHS/WHMIS training for a more interactive experience. Safety Services Manitoba’s GHS/WHMIS training provides students with the most current legislative information including industry best practices. This program teaches participants how to identify hazardous products, control hazards from these products, and safely handle controlled products. Students will understand both the old WHMIS and the new GHS elements. Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of this course.

Training
35.3(1) an employer must ensure that a worker who works with or near a controlled product or performs work involving the manufacture of a controlled product receives training in the following.
a) The content required to be on a supplier label and a workplace label and the purpose and significance of the information on the label;
b) The content required to be on a material safety data sheet and the purpose and significance of the information on the material safety data sheet;
c) Procedures for safely storing, using and handling the controlled product; etc.

Occupational Safety Trainer and Professional Safety Consultant
Dan Montagnon joined SSM’s team in 2014 and since then has taught over 760 students in courses from Aerial Work Platforms to Auditing Techniques, Lift Truck Train the Trainer to Lockout and many more. Dan also currently works with three clients as a Professional Safety Consultant.
Dan is a Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Construction Safety Officer (CSO) and has a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (COHS) from the University of New Brunswick. His areas of expertise include fall protection, overhead crane, rigging and powered mobile equipment.
