1. Do you hold an operator certificate from another province, state or country?

Apply for reciprocity

Go to Question #2

2. Do you currently hold an Operator in Training certificate?

Go to Question #3

Apply for Operator in Training (OIT) certification.

3. Have you been an operator in training for at least 1 year?

Go to Question #5

More time/training as an OIT is required


4. Do you currently hold a Level 1 certificate in one or more of the following categories (WD, WT, WWC, WWT)

Go to Question #6

5. In the past 3 years, have you written and passed a level 1 exam in your category (WD, WT, WWC, WWT)?

apply for Level 1 certificate in the category/categories you passed your exam in.   

You must write and pass the applicable exam(s).


Congratulations!  You have your level I Classification as a water and wastewater treatment operator.  Now on to level II.

6. Have you held your level 1 certificate for at least 1 year?

Go to Question #7

More training is required.


7. Is your current certificate still valid?

Go to Question #8

Certificate renewal is required.

8. Does your current position require a level 2 certification?

Go to Question #9

Level 1 certification is sufficient. Regular training is required to maintain certification.

9. In the past 3 years, have you written and passed a level 2 exam in your category (WD, WT, WWC, WWT)

Apply for level II certification

You must write and pass the applicable exam(s).

Congratulations!  You have your level II Classification as a water and wastewater treatment operator.  Now on to level III.

10.  Do you currently hold a Level 2 certificate in your discipline (WD, WT, WWC, WWT)

Go to Question 11.

Go Back to Question 8.

11.  Have you been Direct Responsible in Charge (DRC) for at least 2 years at a class II facility.

Go to Question 12.

More time as DRC in a Class II Facility is needed.  50% of DRC can be replaced by Post Secondary Education (PSE) and CEU's


12.  Does your current position require a level 3 certification?

Go to Question 13.

Level 2 certification is sufficient. Regular training is required to maintain certification.
