Class Format

Virtual classes are offered in real-time with a live instructor. When you are part of a virtual class, your instructor is able to provide the interactive classroom experience from your own computer. You can participate in discussions, test your knowledge and ask questions, just like in a regular classroom. These classes run similarly to a live class and are a great option for those people interested in completing their training in a typical timeframe.

Learning Objectives 

After completing this course, you will be able to practice the following skills: 

  • Communicating Effectively
Participants will learn elements of good communication, effective listening skills, and communication models for successfully having feedback and accountability conversations.
  • Emotional Intelligence
Participants will learn the four components of Emotional Intelligence and specific strategies to grow their self-awareness and self-management skills.
  • Building Positive Working Relationships
Participants will learn specific strategies to be intentional about building positive relationships in the workplace.
  • Knowing Your Responsibilities
Participants will learn the roles and responsibilities of unionized supervisors and exempt managers.
Participants will learn specific strategies to lead with effectiveness and integrity from the bargaining unit position with a clear understanding of the responsibilities of exempt managers.
  • Performance Management
Participants will learn their role in addressing performance management.
Unionized Supervisors will learn the importance of feedback conversations, coaching, development plans to support staff to be successful.
Participants will learn the progressive discipline model and gain an understanding of the manager's role in performance management including; the difference between culpable and non-culpable, medical accommodations, performance development plan

Who Should Attend 

You should take this course if you:

  • Are currently in a supervisory or management role in a unionized environment;
  • Are interested in pursuing a supervisory or management role in the future;

All attendees must have their own computer with audio and video capabilities to participate.
