This course is intended for operator training and/or as preparation for the Manitoba Small Wastewater Systems (SWWS) Certification Exam. It was developed to be a more thorough review of the WWT & WWC components of the SWWS exam and should be taken in conjunction with the regular Foundations course. Topics include: a very brief review of Foundations material, Wastewater sources and characteristics, Collection system purpose, types of WWC systems, Manholes, Lift & pump stations, Catch basins, Backflow preventers, Cleanouts, WWC system operation and maintenance, WWC system cleaning procedures, corrosion control, piping repairs and rehabilitation, WW characteristics, Basics of WWT microbiological processes, Types of Stabilization Ponds (lagoons), Facultative pond design / operation / maintenance, Basic mechanical WWT processes, Sludge handling, Regulatory requirements, Chlorine Disinfection / De-chlorination, Sampling and testing, and Wastewater collection / treatment mathematical calculations.
