Learning Objectives

This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of watermain service line tapping and fittings. It covers the operation and proper function of both small and large drilling and tapping machines, including hands-on experience conducting live taps on PVC C900 pipe for service sizes ranging from ¾” to 2”. Participants will learn about various types of service brass fittings, adaptors, and valves, along with their correct applications and maintenance requirements. The course also emphasizes safe setup and operation of larger diameter equipment, as well as best practices for installing service lines, service boxes, and service saddles in accordance with AWWA and Uni-Bell recommendations. In addition, it provides an overview of the industry transition from leaded to low-lead brass and the relevant AWWA C800 standards governing service brass materials.

Each participant will conduct a direct tap using B-101 machine in a team setting.

Jordan Webb is the Territory Manager for Mueller in the Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northwestern Ontario regions. In his position with Mueller, he is constantly being trained on the latest procedures for product installation, maintenance, and safety. Currently he is a member of the SWWA, MWWA and NWOWWC associations and has conducted multiple training sessions with each. He brings with him 15 years of training experience.

All participants are required to have proper PPE for working on a hydrant.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

Understand how sampling is used to monitor for compliance with regulations for drinking water and wastewater effluent.
Understand common sampling methods and procedures including grab samples, composite samples, and automatic sampler tools, and how to determine which procedure is appropriate based on the circumstance including routine bacteriological sampling, full chemical analysis, sampling for THMs, influent sampling, primary clarifier sampling, mixed liquor sampling, and monitoring well sampling.
Calculate the area, volume, and time required to flush tanks and pipes.
Understand the equipment and materials used for sampling, and their related safety risks.
Apply concepts of a sampling plan, including chain of custody.
Apply quality management methods for quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC).

Operate or maintain a water treatment, water distribution or wastewater treatment system;
